Whitney Johnson has a great version (slightly different to mine) of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey. She applies it to the journey her friend is on that was sparked by illness striking her and her father. She then addresses the nature of women on hero’s journeys. I’ve talked about this with my mum and wife – there is something masculine about the hero’s journey, but it is by no means exclusive. It is much easier for female buy-in to have Campbell’s journey model pared down as the very specific steps he discusses often pertain only to men.
Whitney’s Dare To Dream blog is all about empowering women. I’m going to be reading it regularly as she has some brilliant articles on there already.
