Wesley Autrey was recognized again for his heroics on the NYC subway on CNN’s Heroes show this week. A bit under three years before he risked his life to save another, an ordinary hero rescued a woman by responding to her screams. Randy Brown rescued Leah Bianco from the tracks after she was bumped off balance and fell from the platform. He was the only one to help. Just like Wesley Autrey was the only one to help.
These examples show why we need to create a generation of “heroes-in-waiting”. If more people train (no pun intended) themselves through embracing an heroic habit we won’t have to hope for a hero when we’re in need. They’ll be crowding around us to help.
