I don’t even like baseball and I recognize these names. They’re famous for their accomplishments. It would be a stretch to call them heroes on any normal day, but they have certainly been role models and adored by fans.
They failed those fans. They cheated. They took drugs to enhance their performances. They showed a lack of character and forfeited their role as role models. I understand the evidence is “circumstantial” but too much smoke over too much time tends to suggest fire.
On the flip side there are a number of players who resisted that temptation and should be congratulated. They saw how much easier it was to succeed by taking performance enhancing drugs and opted to continue striving to improve their games. They can hold up their heads to their friends, family, and fans.
