Rest in Peace, Irena Sendler

Irena Sendler died today.  She is one of those largely unheard of heroes.  She is someone who did something heroic on a massive scale and in an ongoing effort.  She rescued 2,500 children from Nazi concentration camps and almost certain death.

For every one of those children she risked her life.  Imagine risking your life 2,500 times.  Imagine knowing something was wrong and acting against it every day despite overwhelming risk to yourself.  She did that and then went on with her life as if it was no big deal.

Take a minute today to consider this woman.  You can look at her entry in the Gallery of Heroes or visit the Life in a Jar site that celebrates her life and her actions.

Although I did not know who you where until one year after your passing, your story is so amazing. I want to thank you for what you have done for humanity.

    Rest In Peace Ms. Sendler.

What an amazing woman. Although she din not receive her justly deserved recognition in this world, I am comforted by the fact that she will bask in the glory of G-d for all eternity.

Even though I just heard of Irena Sendler last month. Her story is incredible! For my 8th grade Holocaust project, I am doing Irena Sendler. I dont think I’ve heard of a more heroic story. =]

Amen.

Wow, this is a great website and I am really impressed by your efforts to go into schools and teach kids about true heroes.

We need more websites like this, and people like you!

We are featuring Irena on our blog this week as our “featured hero.” I think you would like our website too. You can find it at
