The Hero Manifesto

Inspired by Hugh Macleod’s call for mini-manifestoes, I’ve written a manifesto for heroes.  Maybe I’ll print out playing card size versions to keep in your pocket as your soar from place to place.

  • Keep your eyes on your journey. It’s yours.

  • Take risks. You won’t know where you can go until you do. You won’t know what you can do until you do.

  • Embrace your friends and know your foes. Keeping your friends close helps you on your journey. Knowing your foes lessens their impact.

  • Make decisions based on the decision, not the baggage around it.

  • Create a round table for yourself. Fill it with advisors from fiction, history, and your life. Look to them when you need help on your journey.

  • You don’t call yourself a hero – that’s for others to do.

  • Heroic actions come in the big and small variety – just like heroes.

  • Know yourself. Once you know yourself, everything else is a lot easier to understand.

  • Be the change you wish to see in the world – Gandhi.

  • Exceed expectations.

  • Act with courage. Those without courage are the ones left behind.

thanks for visiting my weblog this morning. This manifesto caught my eye and I like the intent and approach behind it –

It has provoked me in some ways and I will be writingmore on this on my weblog over the next few days. I have started with one piece a few minutes ago.
