The Plot

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and the signature Pixar humor enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The film takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Sorry forgot to put why…her determination and dedication to pioneering women in a completely male dominated field, that also was just in it’s infancy, was an honorable heroic thing to accomplish.

Sonmi~451 from David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas is the prototype of a hero: Someone who, when she understands that something is wrong, is compelled to act on her knowledge. And she does so at great personal risk, in the face of daunting challenges.

Cloud Atlas is a wonderful post-modern novel; its structure is as significant as its message and Sonmi~451 is at the apex of both.

My favorite female hero would have to be Arya Stark from game of thrones. She’s young, very headstrong and refuses to bow to traditional gender roles. She manages to keep composure even in the most intense situations(like being captured and taken prisoner, and being only a few feet from a mortal enemy while trying to hide her identity) She takes up sword fighting, has a pet dire wolf, and even manages to to protect her friends (with the aid of another very cool character) To me she’s a very fun adventurous character and i’d definitely like to see more like her.

Dora the Explorer (the Dora with the long hair, not the short hair). Dora is my favorite super hero because she helps to save the puppies. I love the puppies she helped save because they are small and big.

My favorite female hero would have to be Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter books and movies. She’s a very smart character who has a sense of what is right and wrong, however she does tend to break the rules at times throughout the series. She is very sensitive and always helps out Ron and Harry during their quests. That’s what I like about her. She often corrects Harry, Ron, or other characters when they are doing stupid or wrong things. She also plays a major part of the quests that Harry & Ron have the potential of getting in lots of trouble for. She’s aware of how inconsistent she can be. That’s why I think it’s fun to read about/watch her character.
